Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis is a three-minute, observational, Virtual Reality (VR), scifi-horror experience inspired by Derren Brown’s Ghost Train Rise of the Demon. This innovative, immersive project draws on theatre-staging design methods of space, shape and lighting to initiate the ‘fightor-flight’ reaction of the user, heightening their fear and emotional responses. The user plays the protagonist; a quarantine officer in a sci-fi, post Second World War, monitoring facility. Witnessing the evolutionary development of a botched creature experiment. Whilst the user is preyed upon by an ambiguous predator, placing them in an uncomfortable and vulnerable situation as there is no user interaction only observation, tricking user location perception. The environment evolves and changes, moving from vista to action to personal space, revealing the narrative events to the user, which culminates in the final scare.
