Bearing Witness: Henry Gallant | May 18, 2014
75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ST. LOUIS “DOUBLE CROSSING
”Refugees from Nazi Germany, Henry Gallant and his parents celebrate his 8th birthday aboard the ocean liner St. Louis heading for Cuba. Their journey to a safe haven turns into a nightmare when, to everyone’s horror, the 900+ Jewish passengers on board are denied entry not only to Cuba, but also to the US and Canada. With no country willing to admit them, the St. Louis is forced to return to Europe. Tragically, almost a third of the passengers die in the Holocaust.
