Read the Entire Story: A manufacturer of small stamped metal parts used in automobile manufacturing was looking for an alternative way to handle the frequent changing out of the dies used in their mold press machines. The dies weigh 1 ton a piece and were being lifted by a forklift and lift chain.
The heavy die molds were unsafe to handle by hand and very difficult to handle with a forklift so the company decided to go with a Cleveland Tramrail overhead crane system to solve their problem. The company liked the idea of using a pre-engineered crane because the install required less time and there was no fabrication necessary as would be required with a standard wide flange beam crane system.
New stamping machine lines were installed in rows of two under the Tarca system. The crane is now used to place and remove the heavy die molds into all of the stamping machines, making the die change-out much safer and faster.The workers have made positive comments about the ease of maintenance and improved safety during die changes.
Not only is the process 100% safer with the overhead crane, but changing out the mold dies is now 30% faster, increasing productivity and efficiency.
