Giving Young People a Voice, Halifax Children's Centre and Mount Barker High School
Halifax Children's Centre has combined with Carclew on "The Children's Map Project". Supporting 'student voice' principles, this project has provided a starting point for the children at the centre to begin discussions, and participate in making decisions, about their learning at the centre.
Mount Barker High School has been working with positive education as a focus at the site. They have worked Dr Martin Seligman around the 24 Character Strengths. Through this work the students have become more confident in themselves and have learned that everyone is different and has strengths in different areas. To further embed the learning from this work and contribute to meaningful use of student voice, the site has involved students in making decisions about student direction and school policy, which has given students a stronger sense of ownership at the school.
