Donna J. Cox & NCSA : BBC Interview
"Bob Patterson and I had envisioned the use of a virtual camera and mocked up an early version using the Fakespace boom display. To create camera paths and data visualizations for Cosmic Voyage, we redesigned a virtual reality environment using the new NCSA CAVE [Cave Automatic Virtual Environment]. We met brilliant EVL students including Carolina Cruz, Mary Rasmussen, Margaret Dolinsky, and Marcus Thiébaux. Marcus, Bob, and I designed and built an interface to control a virtual camera so that we could fly through scientific data of colliding galaxies and cosmic evolution. We called this choreography environment Virtual Director and eventually patented it."
