J1760 - Non-Robotic Powder Compact Assembly System
A 2-axis pick and place with grippers removes compacts from the infeed nests, two at a time, and places them into an initial load position inside the pucks. A second 2-axis assembly with grippers engages the lids of the compacts and opens them slightly. A second horizontal pusher assembly extends to pass through the gaps between the lids and bases to fully open the compacts. Pucks enter the cell and pass glue guns that dispense glue into the bases of the open compacts. Two overhead-mounted vertical slides with custom tamp heads lower to press the edges of the cakes down into the compacts. Tamping ensures that cakes have been pressed firmly down and that glue will adequately adhere. Compacts are then closed and sent to the labeler infeed conveyor.
