Cultural Identity – Food as A Clue Chinatown in New York City
As an immigrant community in New York City, Chinatown shares a very different characteristic from any other communities in the city, which has an introverted culture but also an affinity atmosphere at the same time.
Food is a significant part of lifestyle and through it we can easily distinguish different culture characteristics.
Using food as a clue helps us go deep into the community and find out how Chinese culture merges with American culture and simultaneously keep their own identity.
The video will use two interviews, one is with a Chinese food business man and other one is with an American-Born Chinese to explore cultural merge and identity in Chinatown through food.
American culture and Chinese culture affecting each other brings change to food habitat of both American and Chinese, sharing the same food indicating the cultural merge and having their own favor showing the cultural identity.
