Many public water systems use, or are converting to, chloramines as a disinfectant in treatment processes and throughout the distribution system because they maintain a longer-lasting disinfectant residual and also help to lower the levels of disinfection byproducts.
Nitrification can occur with the use of chloramines and knowing how to control nitrification is key to treating with Chloramines.
