Beneath Land and Water: A Project for Elkhorn City Kentucky
This five-year Appalachian project with Susan Steinman and Yutaka Kobayashi supported the Elkhorn City Heritage Council in transforming their small Appalachian town into a tourist destination. Ravaged by mining and extraction industries, local residents believed that art with a historic and ecological consciousness would benefit their activism. The artists came up with the concept of an urban trail, The Blue Line Trail, to connect disparate parts of the with inexpensive materials – kitchen tiles and paint. Pocket parks and quilt murals are featured in this project which left a legacy of friendships and a new tourist brochure.
