2014 Washington County Courthouse Tour
The Washington County Courthouse is rich in history, full of fascinating stories and stunning architecture and surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Learn its story, all the way from the first courthouse, a log cabin built in 1787, to today’s facility. Hear the stories of visits by Presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Harry Truman, and John F. Kennedy. View the statue of General Washington that resides on the top of the courthouse and hear how it was once beheaded by a strike of lightning.
Viewers can also hear about some of the famous court cases that have come through what is affectionately called “the People’s Palace.”
