Surprise the World! Lent 2018 Video Study

This Lent (February 14-April 1), the Bishop and Cabinet invite all Minnesota United Methodists to take on some intentional practices of being generous, hospitable, Spirit-led Christ-like missional people that surprise the world. Beginning on February 15th, each week in the MN Connect e-newsletter, we will post a new video introducing these practices, based on Michael Frost’s book Surprise the World: Five Habits of Highly Missional People. We will also include a link to scripture and reflection questions weekly.

We encourage congregations to purchase copies of the book ($4.99 on Cokesbury.com), and to form small groups to journey together as a DNA (discipleship, nurture, accountability) group during Lent. A small group study guide for each week can be downloaded at minnesotaumc.org/surprisetheworld-resources.

And then tell the stories of what happens as you engage in these five practices by posting on social media with the hashtag #surprisetheworld! Let’s start a movement!

Surprise the World! Week 4: Susan Nienaber

‟I believe that listening is the most important and the most difficult of all interpersonal skills. Yet, listening is an essential threshold that we must cross in order to experience the power of the Holy Spirit....”

Susan Nienaber, district superintendent of the Big Waters District, speaks about "Listen: The Third Habit" in this week's Lenten study video from the Minnesota Annual Conference UMC. Each week, a new video will guide us into a chapter from Michael Frost's book, Surprise the World!

The videos can all be downloaded to share with your study group or entire congregation. Tell the stories of what happens as you engage in these five practices by posting on social media with the hashtag #surprisetheworld! Let’s start a movement!
