2014 Summit Concurrent Session: Finally Getting Real About Stigma

This session, organized by the Sero Project and co-sponsored by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Elton John AIDS Foundation, will examine the challenge of HIV-related stigma, how it has qualitatively changed over the years as the epidemic has become increasingly racialized, feminized, and impoverished, why stigma is increasing and strategies to effectively combat it. Participants will learn about HIV and related stigmas as they intersect; hear initial findings from the US Stigma Index’s pilot project in Detroit; and explore how funders can effectively support community-driven responses for stigma reduction and elimination.
Moderator: Edwin J. Bernard, HIV Justice Network. Panelists: Sean Strub, Sero Project; Andrew Spieldenner, U.S. PLHIV Stigma Index; and Naina Khanna, Positive Women’s Network - USA.
