The Homestead School opened in 1978 to provide a rich academic and practical education within an exceptional rural setting. The School is located in the directors' century-old family homestead on eighty-five acres of fields, woods, marshes, ponds, and streams, twenty minutes north of Port Jervis and twenty-five minutes south of Monticello.

Learning Through Service

It's one thing to get an A in a class assignment. It's another entirely to know that your class assignment is going to make a difference in another person's life. The Homestead School builds service into their middle school curriculum so that projects take on more meaning and urgency. The community benefits and the students take their first steps as leaders and authors of change in the world.
