OCC Spring Rally RSYC Yarmouth IOW
The wind and weather gods favoured Luiz Provin, Vice Commodore of the Offshore Cruising Club, organiser of the OCC Spring Rally.
A high-pressure weather system delivered unseasonably high temperatures of twenty-celsius plus, warm fair winds, and calm seas.
Overlord and Sea Scamp carried out extensive sailing training in the central and west Solent. No matter the level of ability, all the crews were refreshed and tested in safety, MOB, spinnaker handling, circuit and bumps in Cowes, anchoring, pilotage, and sail handling drills.
The focal point was a start of season gathering for yachting aficionados at the Isle of Wight’s gentrified Yarmouth marina and dinner at the Royal Solent Yacht Club.
The dusk panoramic vista from the dining room on the cliff top gave a grand view of the heat wave’s thunder and lightning storm.
As a shakedown to the new season, the Rally gave the opportunity to fix, rectify and sort out faults on the boats. New crews gained insights and training, while the experts sorted out technical solutions on their vessels.
The OCC Spring Rally was a great success.
