Small Brains en Masse

This collection of video works represents several years of using an "extended refresh" technique to examine the way swarms of like creatures move. At various times I have called this technique extruded time, echo, or time trails. I am intrigued by the marks each species leaves. I see these as both data and drawings. As this project has developed I have begun to add slow motion to the technique.

Slow Motion Starlings

The ink brush quality of this render is appealing to me. There is a form of writing like talking in tongs and is called asemic writing. This video resembles ink marks linen and eludes to that practice of repeated performance of the same action which will eventually make it transparent... remove our ponderance of wondering what and why and replace it with the activity itself. This is automatic drawing.
