Josh Micheals - Effective Strategies for Selling Out
As the App Store becomes increasingly crowded standing out has become difficult for Indie devs. Over the past year there have been several blog posts and thought pieces on how the only way to succeed in the App Store now is to build “pop” apps that appeal to everyone. This is framed as selling out or somehow “not indie,” but designing for a broad audience is a practical and reasonable way to approach product design and business. This talk looks at the ideas of “pop” and “universal appeal” and explores the tradeoffs between designing for a small audience and a giant one.
