Janie Clayton - Beyond White: Embracing the iOS Design Aesthetic
Two years ago the developer community got gobsmacked by an entirely new design aesthetic from Apple. Gone were the realistic textures and gradient buttons that had been a hallmark of the iPhone. Now we had to deal with flat interfaces and borderless buttons. We waited for a pioneer to come in and show us how to embrace this new paradigm so that we could go forth and implement beautiful new user interfaces with this new design.
That hasn’t happened.
We’re still staring a white screen wondering how to make beautiful user interfaces that don’t look out of touch with the rest of the Apple design aesthetic.
In this talk, I want everyone to embrace their inner designer. I want you to get over your fear of making crappy design because you have to make crappy design before you can make good design. Go beyond table views and try something else, even if you don’t wind up using it. Go beyond white.
