Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe of Canada 2011
Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe of Canada performed this popular dance at a wedding recently. Singkil is based on a traditional dance of the Maranao people of the Philippines. It depics a princess who shows her skills and grace while performing her dance. The body movements and the flourish of the fans along with the colourful costumes added greatly to the enjoyment of watching this performance The criss-crossing bamboo clapping are a challenge and require split second movements of the dancers.
Fiesta was established in 1966 and is the premier traditional Filipino performing dance company in North America. Based in Mississauga, Ontario, this acclaimed Filippine Canadian folk arts ensemble, made up exclusively of volunteers, has been dedicated to promoting, preserving and propagating Philippine arts and culture in Canada and the world for over 40 years.
The Burlington Convention Centre was the perfect venue for the celebration reception of Apple Joy and Harjeet's wedding. The atmosphere and decorations added to the enjoyment and experience. The fusion of traditional Sikh and Christian ceremonies over 2 days is a wonderful example of Canadian multiculture. I particularly enjoyed working with George, the creative force of Studio 2000, who captured really beautiful images. He's easy going and very creative and certainly one of the best photographers.
