Stop Motion Animations

In 2011 and 2012 Nature Theater of Oklahoma started making stop-motion animated films while we were in tour - part of early explorations for the project that would eventually become Episode 4.5 of Life and Times. These animated shorts were often filmed during the course of a day "off" in dressing rooms, hotel rooms, and empty spaces - basically wherever we found to work un-interrupted for the day. We used whatever we had available to us, often making a tripod out of an ironing board, moving our hotel beds out of the way, using suitcases and dirty socks and Band-Aids - whatever was there to play with.

Interestingly, though most of the live work we make is durational (Life and Times stretches over 14 hours in performance...) these short films compressed an entire day into just a few brief minutes.
