Fooling: a memoir
Fooling: A Memoir, is a collection of adventures from the life of Jay Meyers, his three brothers, and their friends as they grow up together in a small Missouri town. These memories were collected from the nearly 100 tapes filmed with Jay’s home camera. The boys get into trouble, break some bones, hide from the police, challenge gravity, explore who they are and bond as brothers. Their dear mother watches from the side, supporting most of their efforts with words of caution, prayers to God for their safety, and the understanding that this is what it means to raise boys. They live in a town that either didn't provide enough outlets for creativity, or just not the ones they wanted, so they made their own.
A father and two sons sail down the Mississippi River. Their final goal is the Gulf of Mexico. They make it 300 miles downriver before docking The Illusion for the winter.
Told through the narrative of a radio interview and river imagery, the documentary starts out in a tiny northern marina, off the Mississippi river. A father and two of his sons set out for their adventure to the ocean. Motoring at the slow speed of 8 knots and without much experience the small crew make it about 300 miles south and settle off the Tennessee river for the winter. Along their way they encounter both natural and man made obstacles known only to the locals and fellow adventurers.
