#4 Geology & Water
Hydrologist Tom Saunders demonstrates how he collects soil and water samples to understand the Amazon Basin’s geological history, as well as diagnose environmental threats that may be unbalancing the area’s fragile habitats. This is the fourth installment in a ten-part series of video reports documenting The Field Museum’s expedition to the Amazon lowlands.
The Museum’s Rapid Inventory Program brings together biological and social information to create a roadmap for practical, long-lasting, and locally-supported conservation. During October of 2008, the Museum’s international team of scientists led by Dr. Corine Vriesendorp surveyed the Cuyabeno-Güeppí region of the Amazon Basin, which sits at the corner where Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia meet.
