Attention, Executive Function, and Epilepsy - Christine Trask, PhD; Rhode Island Hospital

The involvement of the temporal lobe in the memory and mood problems often associated with epilepsy is well established. The functions of the frontal lobe, however, can also be affected by epilepsy. Dr. Christine Trask, a pediatric neuropsychologist at Rhode Island Hospital, discusses two of these functions: attention and executive function. In addition to reviewing the different components of these cognitive functions, Dr. Trask discusses epilepsy-related causes, challenges unique to epilepsy, the role of the neuropsychologist, and strategies for managing these cognitive difficulties.
