The Homestead School opened in 1978 to provide a rich academic and practical education within an exceptional rural setting. The School is located in the directors' century-old family homestead on eighty-five acres of fields, woods, marshes, ponds, and streams, twenty minutes north of Port Jervis and twenty-five minutes south of Monticello.

Honor the Child

Founded in 1978, the Homestead School bases its curriculum on the Montessori educational system. Its teachers are strict adherents to this teaching philosophy, “an innovative, child-centered approach to learning.” In addition to being one of one of the most respected Montessori schools, the Homestead School brings children back to nature. The school is located in rural upstate New York on 85 acres of farm land, streams, marsh lands, and nature walks.

Featuring the voices of founder Pete Comstock, teachers Jack Comstock, Nisha Gupta, and Carla Giuffrida, as well as alumni parent Tricia Lutfy.
