By the end of the year 2020, the Sea Region of churches wants to DOUBLE IN A DOZEN WAYS.
The Southeast Asia Churches or the SEA region is comprised of churches from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and Korea. The region plans to double in the following ways:
1) Double the amount of churches in the region
2) Double the membership of each church
3) Double the number of Bible Talk leaders
4) Double the number of Zone leaders
5) Double the number of Staff
6) Double the number of Deacons
7) Double the number of campus ministries
8) Double our Bible knowledge
9) Double our giving
10) Double our efforts at helping the needy
11) Double the amount of worship teams
12) Double the number of services
What this practically means for each member is that they will live out the mission statement of the SEA region churches which is the following, “We gather here to know God and make God known.” By the end of 2011 every Bible talk would have helped convert at least two friends.
In November of 2011, the leaders from the SEA region gathered in Singapore to attend a three day workshop taught by Mr. Ben Rasberry, a senior consultant for MAP, a US based consulting firm, to learn from an outside expert on how to come up with a vision for our organization. We learned about coming up with a BHAG for our region, which stands for Big, Holy, Audacious Goal. (Mr. Rasberry took this from some of Jim Collins’ writing, and gave it a spiritual twist.) We learned that this goal or vision should be something that causes us to renew our minds and provide faith and inspiration. To be effective, a goal has to be specific, measureable, actionable, realistic and time-bound. We broke up into small groups and discussed our different challenges and opportunities and brainstormed on what could be a possible BHAG for our region. It was a productive and meaningful time to learn from an outside source and to make sure we really understood how to create a vision and how to see it to fruition in our region. The main church leaders of the SEA region then met to consolidate what we had learned. We first discussed the need to get our churches aligned spiritually so that ten years from now we would still be united. Then we decided to focus on the principle of not only growing numerically and spiritually, but of doubling and reproducing ourselves and our leadership. This goal has been presented to each church with the goal that any disciple in any one of our churches in the region will know clearly what the SEA region BHAG is and share a common unity in our 2020 vision.
