A Billion Bikes

A BILLION BIKES celebrates the universal bicycling experience for both beginning and veteran riders, and those curious about cycling evolution in their own communities and around the world. Programs explore flourishing bicycle cultures, strategies for regular riding, and the sheer fun of being personally mobile in a modern lifestyle. Viewers ride along through European cities and Asian villages, share strategies with bike designers, chat with city planners, learn from experienced mechanics, help children (and adults!) learn to ride, visit antique bicycle museums, test equipment and clothing, join in on charity rides and family weekends, commute to work through city streets, and even bring home the weekly groceries.

There are now a billion bikes in the world. Which one will find you? Produced by CookStudios.TV. More info at ABillionBikes.TV.

BIK103 (1of2) Mechanical Safety (6:52)

Mechanical Safety, Part 1 of 2. Shopping for a second-hand bike? Just pulled the old clunker out of the basement? Or maybe you’re prepping the machine for winter storage? Bill Mould, Chief Mechanic at Spokes Etc in Alexandria, Virginia guides us through some safety considerations before putting an unfamiliar bike on the trail. Bill is a master bike mechanic and instructor, with a bench full of certifications and decades of advanced maintenance under his tool belt.

We first meet two racers fresh off the mountain bike track at the recent Greenbrier Challenge. Cass and Tanya were joined by over five hundred others in April in northern Maryland for one of the fastest growing MTB events in the world. The event is now part of the UCI system, which means watch for future Olympic cyclists in an upcoming episode.
